Ken Gordon has taken the liberty to edit a few points in these notes. Ken's comments and edits will appear in italics. Nikki's notes are in regular text.
We can thank Nikki Reed, for the following notes from our meeting in May:
These are some of the notes I jotted down while attending the meeting on 04/28/16.
The date for the parade is Feb 18, 2017 from 7-9pm, if it rains, the date of the parade will be Feb 25, 2017 from 7-9 pm. The time of the parade has been moved down to 7 pm since this is a night parade. The parade will be 3000 ft long. We want to have 60 floats/units. The route of the parade is 2.3 miles. We are awaiting approval for the parade. The city mgr, Meg Kelsey seems to be consumed with other issues, Ken has had the most contact via the asst. city mgr, Sue Olsen.
The proposed route will be longer than the Christmas parade. We will go near the college, around Ben Hill.
We have donated 5% to United Way and donated 5% to Twin Cedars. Organizations and people who we will try and reach out to for parade participation are LaGrange College Sororities and Fraternities, Amberwood for Motorized Wheelchair paraders, Horse units, exchange students, Cowbellians (to be formed), and Shriners.
Ms. Kitty proposed that we get name badges, different colors for different levels. Payment for membership. Krewe of Mask Logo is already established.
Per LaSwann Beasley, Kim and Lisa are very interested. This makes us happy.
Relative to Twin Ceders, we anticipate a mutually beneficial set of circumstances in addition to the intrinsic fun.
For the parade, a full Riding member would pay $240, a marching member would pay $100, and volunteers would not pay anything. Individual units may be of any number of people and we are anticipating a 100 dollar entrance fee per unit marching or riding in the parade.
Cowbellians and Order of Chaos are an exception. These units have a special status. These units exist to give a structure to marchers who do not belong to another group so each marcher in these two groups would be at the 100 dollar membership level.
Float riders and Marchers are members of Krewe of Mask. Members of Krewe of Mask will be getting special perks like Krewe throws and more. A post parade party is being discussed. Likely this will be a perk for Krewe Of Mask members.
There will also be people in the parade who are not members of Krewe of Mask. Largely, if not entirely, they will be responsible for their own costuming and throws.
Thus, a band or a Student group (like the international students) would only need a 100 dollar entry fee to participate.
All people marching or riding in the parade are subject to Krewe of Mask Rules for the parade especially in regard to safety and decorum. We want this to be a safe and enjoyable event.
Talk to the Mayor or city officials about warehouses to build the floats.
Theme is "Mardi Gras Around the World".
Be sure to run the title of you float by the Art Committee to be sure it is approved and no two Floats are the same.
Downtown Restaurant and business involvement in the parade???? Advertisement for the parade through the Chamber of Commerce???? Jay Ellle has an Awesome song: "Mardi Gras in Troup County"! (It's on YouTube). John Cashen is handling much of the political work. Parade approval could take up to 2-3 weeks. Barbie Watts is on the Art Committee. Art Dept at LaGrange College may want to be involved.
Dr. G and Nikki should talk with the Nurses about joining and fees. We need more members!
The next meeting will be held May 12 at 7 pm at Ken Gordon's Home.
